CVE-2023-39347 is a critical vulnerability affecting Cilium, an eBPF-based networking, observability, and security solution. An attacker with Kubernetes API Server access can manipulate pod labels to bypass network policies, including those based on namespace, service account, or cluster constructs. This flaw, rated 9.0 CRITICAL (AV:A/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:C/C:H/I:H/A:H), allows for complete compromise of confidentiality, integrity, and availability by enabling unauthorized traffic. While no active exploitation, public exploit code, or significant community discussion has been observed, users are strongly advised to upgrade to Cilium versions 1.14.2, 1.13.7, or 1.12.14, or implement an admission webhook as a workaround.
