CVE-2023-39231 is a medium-severity vulnerability affecting PingFederate when using the PingOne MFA adapter, allowing a new MFA device to be registered without requiring existing second-factor authentication. An attacker with knowledge of a victim's first-factor credentials could exploit this to register their own MFA device, leading to a high integrity impact. The attack is network-based and low complexity, but there is currently no evidence of active exploitation, public exploit code, or significant community discussion.
