CVE-2023-36609 is a high-severity vulnerability (CVSS 7.2) affecting Ovarro TBox RTUs, including various LT2, MS-CPU32, and RM2 models. It allows a highly privileged attacker to achieve root privileges by exploiting the RTU's OpenVPN configuration, which runs with root privileges and can execute user-defined scripts. By setting up a malicious local OpenVPN server, an attacker can push a harmful script onto the TBox host. There is currently no evidence of active exploitation, public exploit code (Metasploit, Nuclei, ExploitDB), or significant community discussion or media coverage surrounding this vulnerability.
