CVE-2023-28865 affects Diebold Nixdorf Vynamic Security Suite (VSS) versions prior to 3.3.0 SR15, 4.0.0 SR05, 4.1.0 SR03, and 4.2.0 SR02. The vulnerability stems from insufficient directory content validation during the Pre-Boot Authorization (PBA) process. This medium-severity flaw (CVSS 6.6) allows a physical attacker to manipulate hard disk contents, potentially leading to full compromise (confidentiality, integrity, and availability). There is currently no evidence of active exploitation, public exploit code (Metasploit, Nuclei, ExploitDB), or significant community discussion or media coverage.
