CVE-2023-28462 is a critical vulnerability affecting Payara Server versions 4.1.2.191 (Enterprise), 5.20.0+ (Enterprise), and 5.2020.1+ (Community) when used with Java 1.8u181 or earlier. It allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code on the server through a JNDI rebind operation in the default ORB listener during a JNDI directory scan. With a CVSS score of 9.8 (CRITICAL), this vulnerability has a network attack vector, low attack complexity, and can lead to complete compromise of confidentiality, integrity, and availability. There is currently no public exploit code available, and it has not been observed in active exploitation, with minimal community discussion or media coverage.
