CVE-2023-22796 is a regular expression denial-of-service (DoS) vulnerability affecting Active Support versions prior to 6.1.7.1 and 7.0.4.1. An attacker can trigger catastrophic backtracking in the regular expression engine by providing a specially crafted string to the underscore method, leading to high CPU and memory consumption. This vulnerability has a CVSS score of 7.5 (High), indicating it can be exploited remotely with low attack complexity to cause a complete denial of service.
