CVE-2022-40617 is a denial-of-service vulnerability affecting strongSwan versions prior to 5.9.8, as well as canonical, debian, fedoraproject, and stormshield products. Attackers can exploit this by sending a crafted certificate with a malicious CRL/OCSP URL that points to a non-responsive or data-flooding server, causing the revocation plugin to hang. With a CVSS score of 7.5 (High), this vulnerability is remotely exploitable with low attack complexity and no user interaction, leading to a complete loss of availability. Currently, there is no evidence of active exploitation, public exploit code, or significant community discussion surrounding this CVE.

CVE-2022-40617
Nov 8, 2022strongSwan before 5.9.8 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service in the revocation plugin by sending a crafted end-entity (and intermediate CA) certificate that contains a CRL/OCSP URL that points to a server (under the attacker's control) that doesn't properly respond but (for example) just does nothing after the initial TCP handshake or sends an excessive amount of application data.
