CVE-2022-40250

28
FAUCET Score

CVE-2022-40250 is a privilege escalation vulnerability in AMI Aptio 5.x firmware, specifically within the SmmSmbiosElog module. An attacker can exploit this to execute arbitrary code in System Management Mode (SMM), a highly privileged environment, bypassing OS and SMM-based SPI flash protections. This allows for the installation of persistent firmware backdoors and circumvention of UEFI security mechanisms like Secure Boot. With a CVSS score of 8.8 (High), it requires local access but has low attack complexity, leading to complete compromise of confidentiality, integrity, and availability. There is currently no public exploit code available, nor is there evidence of active exploitation or significant community discussion.
