CVE-2022-1664 describes a critical directory traversal vulnerability in Dpkg::Source::Archive within the Debian package management system (dpkg), affecting versions prior to 1.21.8, 1.20.10, and 1.19.8. This flaw allows an attacker to extract untrusted source packages (v2 and v3 formats) with specially crafted orig.tar and debian.tar tarballs, leading to arbitrary file placement on affected Debian and NetApp systems. With a CVSS score of 9.8 (CRITICAL), this vulnerability has a network-based attack vector, low attack complexity, and high impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. There is currently no evidence of active exploitation, public exploit code (Metasploit, Nuclei, ExploitDB), or significant community discussion or media coverage.
