CVE-2021-20322

28
FAUCET Score

CVE-2021-20322 is a high-severity flaw in the Linux kernel's handling of ICMP errors, specifically "fragment needed" and "redirect" messages. This vulnerability allows an off-path attacker to bypass UDP source port randomization, enabling rapid scanning of open UDP ports. The primary impact is on confidentiality and potentially integrity for software relying on UDP source port randomization. While the CVSS score is 7.4 (High), indicating a network-based attack with high impact on confidentiality and integrity, the attack complexity is also high. There is no evidence of active exploitation, public exploit code, or significant community discussion, and it is not listed in the CISA KEV catalog.

Vendor Advisories (2)

microsoft2022-Feb/CVE-2021-20322Important

A flaw in the processing of received ICMP errors (ICMP fragment needed and ICMP redirect) in the Linux kernel functionality was found to allow the ability to quickly scan open UDP ports. This flaw allows an off-path remote user to effectively bypass the source port UDP randomization. The highest threat from this vulnerability is to confidentiality and possibly integrity because software that relies on UDP source port randomization are indirectly affected as well.
