CVE-2020-9760 describes a critical buffer overflow vulnerability in WeeChat versions 0.3.4 through 2.7. This flaw occurs when the IRC client receives a specially crafted 005 message with extended nick prefixes, leading to a crash or potential arbitrary code execution when a new nick mode is set. With a CVSS score of 9.8, this vulnerability is network-exploitable with low attack complexity, allowing unauthenticated attackers to achieve high impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. Despite its severity, there is currently no public exploit code available, nor is there evidence of active exploitation or significant community discussion.
