CVE-2020-36166 describes a vulnerability in Veritas InfoScale, Storage Foundation, and InfoScale Operations Manager on Windows. These products attempt to load an OpenSSL configuration file from a predictable path (\usr\local\ssl\openssl.cnf) which may not exist. A low-privileged attacker can create this file to load a malicious OpenSSL engine, leading to arbitrary code execution with SYSTEM privileges when the service starts. This vulnerability has a CVSS score of 8.8 (HIGH), indicating a local attack with low complexity that can result in complete compromise of confidentiality, integrity, and availability. There is currently no public exploit code available (Metasploit, Nuclei, ExploitDB) and no evidence of active exploitation or significant community discussion.
