CVE-2019-7240 describes a privilege escalation vulnerability in WinRing0x64.sys, a driver used by Moo0 System Monitor 1.83. The driver exposes a wrmsr instruction via IOCTL 0x9C402088 without properly filtering Model Specific Register (MSR) writes. This flaw allows an attacker to achieve Ring-0 code execution, leading to complete system compromise and escalation of privileges. Rated with a CVSS score of 7.2 (HIGH), this vulnerability has a network attack vector and low attack complexity, allowing a high-privileged attacker to impact confidentiality, integrity, and availability.
