CVE-2019-14871 describes a memory allocation vulnerability in the newlib C library, affecting versions prior to 3.3.0. Specifically, the REENT_CHECK macro fails to properly handle memory allocation failures when the DEBUG flag is disabled, a common configuration in production firmware.
