CVE-2018-5731

CVE-2018-5731 describes a local privilege escalation vulnerability in Heimdal PRO 2.2.190. An attacker can exploit a race condition during the scanning process, specifically when the md.hs process writes and executes CS1.tmp in C:\windows\TEMP. By pre-creating and then rapidly rewriting the file, an attacker can execute arbitrary code with elevated privileges. This vulnerability has a CVSS v3 score of 7.0 (High), indicating a high impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability, but requires high attack complexity. There is currently no public exploit code available, nor is there evidence of active exploitation or significant community discussion.
