CVE-2018-12679 describes a denial-of-service vulnerability in CoAPthon3 versions 1.0 and 1.0.1, affecting applications utilizing its Serialize.deserialize() method. This flaw allows an unauthenticated attacker to crash affected CoAP servers and clients by sending specially crafted CoAP messages that trigger unhandled exceptions. With a CVSS score of 7.5 (HIGH), this vulnerability is easily exploitable over the network with low attack complexity, leading to a complete loss of availability.
