CVE-2018-12542 is a critical path traversal vulnerability affecting Eclipse Vert.x versions 3.0.0 to 3.5.3 when running on Windows. The StaticHandler component fails to properly neutralize backslash sequences in external input, allowing attackers to construct pathnames outside of the intended restricted directory. With a CVSS score of 9.8 (Critical), this vulnerability allows for unauthenticated remote attackers to achieve high confidentiality, integrity, and availability impacts. There is currently no public exploit code available, nor is there evidence of active exploitation or significant community discussion.
