CVE-2017-17085

44
FAUCET Score

CVE-2017-17085 describes a high-severity vulnerability in Wireshark versions 2.4.0 to 2.4.2 and 2.2.0 to 2.2.10, where a flaw in the CIP Safety dissector could lead to a denial-of-service condition. This unauthenticated network-based vulnerability, with low attack complexity, could allow an attacker to crash the application by sending a specially crafted packet. While not actively exploited in the wild or on the CISA KEV catalog, public exploit code exists (EDB-43233), and its high FAUCET Risk Score of 93/100 indicates significant potential impact despite minimal community discussion or media coverage. The issue was resolved by validating packet length in subsequent Wireshark updates.
