CVE-2017-12238 is a medium-severity denial-of-service vulnerability affecting Cisco Catalyst 6800 Series Switches running specific Cisco IOS versions with C6800-16P10G or C6800-16P10G-XL line cards configured for VPLS. An unauthenticated, adjacent attacker can exploit a memory management issue by creating numerous VPLS-generated MAC entries, causing a line card crash. This vulnerability has a CVSS score of 6.5 and is actively exploited, as indicated by its presence in the KEV catalog.
