CVE-2016-9638 describes a local privilege escalation vulnerability in BMC Patrol versions prior to 9.13.10.02. The "listguests64" binary, configured with setuid, insecurely searches for "virsh" via the PATH environment variable, executing it with root privileges. This allows a local attacker to achieve root access, posing a high severity risk with a CVSS score of 7.8. There is currently no public exploit code available, nor is there evidence of active exploitation or significant community discussion surrounding this vulnerability.
