CVE-2016-2774 is a denial-of-service vulnerability affecting ISC DHCP versions 4.1.x before 4.1-ESV-R13 and 4.2.x/4.3.x before 4.3.4, including various Canonical and Debian distributions. The vulnerability allows remote attackers to cause an INSIST assertion failure or request-processing outage by establishing numerous concurrent TCP sessions, as the software does not restrict their number. With a CVSS score of 5.9 (Medium) and an EPSS score indicating higher than 98% of all CVEs, this vulnerability has a high attack complexity but can lead to a complete loss of availability. There is no evidence of active exploitation, readily available exploit code (Metasploit, Nuclei, ExploitDB), or significant community discussion or media coverage.
