CVE-2016-10727 describes a critical vulnerability in the IMAPx component of GNOME evolution-data-server, affecting versions before 3.21.2, as well as Canonical Evolution and Ubuntu Linux. The flaw allows cleartext transmission of passwords when a client requests STARTTLS but the server fails to establish it, making sensitive information vulnerable to network sniffing. With a CVSS score of 9.8 (Critical), this vulnerability is easily exploitable over the network with low complexity, potentially leading to full compromise of confidentiality, integrity, and availability.
