CVE-2012-0978 describes a stack-based buffer overflow in the npjp2.dll component of LuraWave JP2 Browser Plug-In versions prior to 2.1.1.11. This flaw allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code by enticing a user to open a specially crafted JPEG2000 (JP2) file containing a malicious Quantization Default (QCD) marker segment. With a CVSS score of 6.8, this vulnerability is of medium severity, requiring user interaction (AC:M) but not authentication (Au:N) for exploitation, and could lead to partial compromise of confidentiality, integrity, and availability (C:P/I:P/A:P).
