CVE-2012-0828

32
FAUCET Score

CVE-2012-0828 describes a critical heap-based buffer overflow vulnerability in Xchat-WDK versions prior to 1499-4 (2012-01-18) on Maemo architecture, impacting various Xchat and Xchat-WDK products. This flaw allows remote attackers to trigger a denial of service or execute arbitrary code by sending a UTF-8 line from a server containing characters outside the Basic Multilingual Plane. With a CVSS score of 9.8 (CRITICAL), it presents a severe risk due to its network-based attack vector, low attack complexity, and high potential for confidentiality, integrity, and availability compromise. Despite its severity, there is no evidence of active exploitation, publicly available exploit code (Metasploit, Nuclei, ExploitDB), or significant community discussion or media coverage.
