27
FAUCET Score

CVE-2009-1389 describes a buffer overflow vulnerability in the RTL8169 NIC driver (r8169.c) within the Linux kernel, affecting versions prior to 2.6.30. This flaw allows remote attackers to trigger a denial of service through kernel memory corruption and system crashes by sending a specially crafted long packet. Rated with a CVSS score of 7.8 (High), it is easily exploitable over the network with low attack complexity, leading to a complete loss of availability. Despite its severity, there is no evidence of active exploitation, public exploit code (Metasploit, Nuclei, ExploitDB), or significant community discussion or media coverage.
