CVE-2004-0217 describes a local privilege escalation vulnerability in the LiveUpdate feature (liveupdate.sh) of Symantec AntiVirus Scan Engine 4.0 and 4.3 for Red Hat Linux. An attacker can exploit this flaw by using a symlink attack on the /tmp/LiveUpdate.log file, allowing them to create or append to arbitrary files on the system. With a CVSS score of 7.0 (HIGH), this vulnerability has a high impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability, but requires local access and high attack complexity.
