CVE-1999-1029 describes a vulnerability in SSH server (sshd2) versions prior to 2.0.12, where it fails to log login attempts if the connection is terminated before reaching the maximum number of tries. This flaw allows a remote attacker to conduct password guessing attacks without leaving audit trail evidence. With a CVSS score of 7.5 (HIGH), this vulnerability is easily exploitable over the network with low complexity, potentially leading to unauthorized access, information disclosure, and denial of service.
